Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a fishing license?

A current fishing license is required for anyone 16 years and older. Temporary licenses are available for those that do not wish to purchase an annual license. Annual and temporary licenses are also available online. Check with the captain a day or so in advance of your trip to determine which license will be needed and where to purchase one.

When is the best time to book my charter?

It is our opinion that any time is a good time to go fishing. Depending on What type of fish you are looking for will determine the time of year you should book your trip. Lake Erie we fish from around April 15th all the way until Christmas.

Lake Michigan: April through June brings fast action for Coho and Browns. June through August is tackle busting time with large King Salmon, Steelhead and Coho. We are filling coolers with impressive catches August through October too. Please contact us for help if you are unsure what time you need.

What should I bring?

All fishing tackle and bait are provided. A current fishing license is required. It is strongly suggested that soft soled shoes be worn for safety. Other suggestions of items include, food and beverage, Rain gear and warm jacket (appropriate clothing for weather conditions), sun glasses and hat, camera (disposable in case it were to go overboard) and a cooler (kept in your vehicle) to take your catch home.

I don't have tackle for Perch or Walleye fishing...

This is not a problem. All fishing tackle and bait are provided. We have all the high quality equipment you will need for your fishing experience.

What accommodations are available in the area?

There are places to stay in the area. A few are very close to the marina, others are a short drive. If you need a place to stay please bring that to our attention and we will provide you with information pertaining to places to stay.

What if I need to cancel my reservations?

It is understandable that there are times where things come up that force the cancellation of a trip. Please let us know as far in advance as possible when the need to cancel arises.

Can I get my deposit back?

A three (3) week notice is REQUIRED if you must cancel your charter or your deposit will be forfeited. Cancellation by the Captain, due to weather or any other reason, results in a full refund of your deposit or rescheduling of your trip at the Captain's discretion.

What time does the trip start?

In the early spring (April/May), trips usually start at 7:00 A.M. as the summer progresses, we prefer to start a bit earlier as the early morning can bring more consistent catches. We also offer afternoon trips. In most cases, we will be able to accommodate your needs, contact us for special requests.

Can children come on the boat?

Children are always welcome on the boat, bring the grandparents too. Fishing trips can make great family memories.

Is there any age limit for bringing children?

My best advice is that children under 6 years old may not enjoy the trip and might make it hard for the other people on board. Children age 10 or under should have an adult per child to assist them in having a great time fishing. We also request that there be at least one adult aboard for children 16 years and younger.

Who cancels the trip because of weather conditions?

It will be the captains final decision to cancel or reschedule a trip in cases of inclement weather.

Will my reservations be kept if I do not send in my deposit?

Deposit are requested to be sent within 10 days of scheduling. If the deposit is not received within this timeframe, there is a strong possibility that that spot will be rescheduled. Please make your reservations early!

Are alcoholic beverages allowed?

Alcoholic beverages are allowed on the boat, beer or wine only (no hard liquor). I do prefer that any beverages that are brought on the boat are in unbreakable containers for every ones safety.

Are prescription medications allowed on the boat?

Prescription medications are allowed on the boat as long as you have documentation from you doctor. Any illegal drugs on board are PROHIBITED by Federal Law. Fishers of Men is in full support of the "ZERO TOLERANCE" program of the U.S. Coast Guard a nd the U.S. Customs Service. No drugs, in any quantity, are permitted on board.
