Suppressing a fire effectively and safely requires using the right kind of extinguisher for the type of fire. Just as anything else is going up, you should know that all fire extinguishers everywhere are going to go up 15% supposedly some time this month.

Fire Extinguishers required to pass VSC (Vessel Safety Check):

Fire extinguishers are required if one of the following conditions exists:
(1) Inboard engine(s);
(2) Closed compartments that store portable fuel tanks;
(3) Double bottom hulls not completely sealed or not completely filled with flotation materials
(4) Closed living space
(5) Closed stowage compartments that contain flammable materials or
(6) Permanently installed fuel tanks NOTE: Fire extinguishers must be readily accessible and verified as serviceable.

These 2-1/2# extinguishers can be re-filled for around 9.85, re-certified for about 4.00 for a year. So, you have the initial investment for a 6 year commercial fire extinguisher that will be about the cost of two of the el-cheapo throw away ones, good for only two years instead of six...SAVE. They mount on any surface with the wall hook supplied, or if preferred, can be supplied with optional marine bracket.

Chemically insulates Class A fires by melting and clinging to the heated surface, smothers and breaks the chain reaction on Class B fires and is a non-conductor of electricity.

I will be listing the throw aways, but think what I said earlier. They are half the price but will have to be replaced every year. AND look at the regulations part that says "Fire extinguishers must be readily accessible and verified as serviceable. They are not legal any more because they are not servicable.
